History

Software PM is the author of Manufacturing PM II (MPM II), a closed-loop MRP II system designed for the IBM iSeries Server computer family.  Founded in 1984 by Mr. James A. Sciano, a former top management executive with System Software Associates (SSA), the author of BPCS, Software PM has an estimated 3,800 installed sites, worldwide.

Mr. Sciano saw the need for a quality, simple, foundation software product that addressed small-to-medium sized manufacturing firms of all types.  He also wanted that software product to be intuitive and easily modified/implemented.  He did not want the cost to be prohibitive, but easily “fit” into the smaller manufacturers’ budget with enough financial “room” for adequate and onsite education and implementation support.  The answer?  MPM II.

In 1996, IBM also saw this same market need and selected MPM II as one of its “Solutions of Choice.”  As such, IBM began national marketing campaigns in the United States promoting MPM II.  This alliance continues to grow stronger and has spread to all of North America, with IBM’s further appointment of MPM II and Software PM to its North American ISV Joint Marketing Partner Program.   And … the rest “is history!”

 Years in Review:

1984 Software PM, Inc. founded by James A. Sciano with two key areas of focus: Business consulting for IBM-related third party software services firms and objective end user consulting services to firms computerizing for the first time.  Mr. Sciano’s technical industry background is rooted in the service bureau business, application software development and marketing.
1986 Manufacturing PM (MPM), a full closed loop MRP II solution designed for the small-to-medium sized make-to-stock, make-to-order, assemble-to-order manufacturer introduced for the IBM System/36.
1987 Software PM, Inc. announced the unique One-Time Reseller Remarketing License Fee opportunity to third party firms internationally. This opportunity gave third party firms the right to license their own version of MPM to end users. Currently there are Resellers in over 30 countries.
1989 Software PM, Inc. was selected as a "Future 50" company by the Council of Small Business Executives of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. Key factors in receiving this honor include revenue, employment growth and firms that have shown and will show promising growth in the future.
1990 Manufacturing PM II (MPM II) was announced for the IBM AS/400 computer. Two versions of MPM II were now available (System/36 and AS/400).
1993 Manufacturing PM II is approved by IBM as a value-add manufacturing software product under the MIR/IRA program. Software PM, Inc. begins to sell IBM new computer hardware along with MPM II throughout the United States.
1994 Software PM, Inc. was once again selected as a "Future 50" company.
1996 Software PM, Inc. signs a Vendor Marketing Program (VMP) Agreement with IBM for the Manufacturing PM II product. IBM begins and continues multiple national direct mail campaigns promoting MPM II and the smaller IBM AS/400.
1998 Software PM strives for and achieves an estimated 3,600 installed sites of MPM II this year as well as penetrates into IBM foreign office territories with the help of IBM in the United States.

Software PM named an IBM North American ISV Joint Marketing Program Partner, making MPM II a select value-add application.
