PRESS RELEASE - NOVEMBER 2002 |

Milwaukee, WI - Borrowing a page from the increasingly popular open-source software movement, a long-time IBM Midrange application software Solution Provider is announcing an open-ended licensing arrangement for its IBM value-add approved source code, to channel partners/any 3rd party entity. Software PM, Inc., developer of Manufacturing PM II (MPM II), and an MSI Magazine named 'TOP 100' manufacturing software author for the last several years [www.manufacturingsystems.com], is providing its iSeries/400 RPG source code and documentation to 3rd parties for a one-time upfront end user resale license fee. A licensed 3rd party is granted perpetual, worldwide and non-exclusive resale rights of the software to end users. The system must be private-labeled by each 3rd party. The licensing 3rd party gains total control of the software, which includes all source code and marketing freedoms, including pricing. The 3rd party as well retains 100% of the related revenue it realizes from this resale arrangement. There are no further royalty payment obligations to Software PM. "This unique offer/arrangement will help smaller resellers, consultants, independent programmers and software vendors to locally/regionally compete in a market increasingly dominated by such giants as SAP, PEOPLESOFT and ORACLE", says Software PM's President/CEO, James A. Sciano. "We're doing this because our unique one-time reselling license fee offer simply extends the reach of our software into the vast small-midsize manufacturing (MRP/ERP) user marketplace, which is too large for a smaller author/vendor to ever gain market share in through direct selling", he explains. Under the one-time reselling license fee offer the 3rd party licensee receives all the source code and documentation for the 15-module, integrated MPM II package, which runs on IBM's popular iSeries/400 Midrange computers. The 3rd party also gains private label-naming rights, total control of reselling price, modules sold, links/integration with other software and any/all marketing approaches it so chooses. As well, the 3rd party can benefit from all related services and hardware revenues generated from the resale of this software. Modules include: Customer Order Management, A/R, A/P, G/L, Inventory Control, Physical Inventory Costing, Purchasing, Stock Locator, Product Database, Standard Product Costing, Master Scheduling, MRP, CRP, Shop Floor Control, Shop and Inventory Costing. (Product Configurator is offered as an optional module.) "The 3rd party, no matter how small, enjoys the right to finally 'own' a solid proven, major software application that they can resell in a variety of forms/ways", according to Sciano. "Plus, they keep all marketing controls over the product, without having to 'play by some other author's rules' as to how they should sell the software," Sciano continues. "I believe this unique reselling channel we now have in place is also offering real hope, control and a positive outlook for the future of the IT industry, to these 3rd parties, in an otherwise clouded and uncertain time". "And, with the very reasonable one-time license fee pricing we're offering; the risk for that hopeful feeling and "destiny control" is quite minimal," Sciano concludes. The one-time fee starts as low as $2,500USD. Sciano may be called for further information at: 262-797-9399 or emailed at: softpm@execpc.com.
